Our world has a deep fascination with superheroes. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Wolverine, Spider-Man etc. We are drawn to these figures because in them we see many of the same qualities that we have within ourselves.
Like us, they are beings born with great potential. But, the challenges they face, and ultimately, the decisions they make determines who they become and their impact on the world. I think that if we’re put in the right conditions, and we tap into our gifts and talents, we can do special things.
Here are 5 keys to discovering the potential inside of you. By following these steps you should be able to uncover your unique gifts and talents and determine your ultimate purpose.
You have to develop your innate gifts and “life” is your training ground to do this.
It’s impossible to get stronger, better, more capable, unless you have resistance. The strength of your unique gifts and talents are developed much like a muscle. The more resistance you have, the more growth you should experience and the better your results should be.
The challenges in life are not there to debilitate and frustrate you. They are there to develop the necessary qualities required to unleash your full potential.
We are hardwired to fear the unknown. There’s really nothing wrong with that, as it serves to keep us safe. This formed the basis of our fight-or-flight response. However, this can really sabotage us and handicap our progress if we don’t see past the fear and allow it to control our life.
Eleanor Roosevelt said, “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.” Overcoming your fear is a prerequisite for greatness.
Take an honest look inside yourself, what would you be doing with your life if you truly had the choice?
The reality is: You do have a choice.
It may sound strange, but one of the most courageous things you can do is follow the true calling within your soul. Oftentimes we unknowingly conform to what society has deemed to be normal, responsible, acceptable, or safe. Many people discard their passions to better fit into what society expects of them.
All the great people throughout history were faced with adversity that often resulted in them doing things that had never been done before. Just because something has never been done before (within your circle, or the world) does not mean that it can’t or should not be done. You just have to be the one who’s willing to make it happen.
The human mind is naturally curious. Questions automatically direct our thinking. By asking the right questions, you should be better able to uncover the answers you’re looking for.
Most people constantly asking dis-empowering questions like: Why you? What’s wrong with you? This causes you to have your mind focused on your flaws (real or imagined) instead of your potential greatness.
Asking the right question is the quickest way to changing the answer you receive. To become empowered in your mind, body, and spirit begin asking questions that serve you and move you forward rather than pulling you back. Try questions like these instead:
*What’s right about this?
*What gifts or talents do I have RIGHT NOW that can help in this?
*How can I have fun doing this?
*What is it that I need to learn from this?
*Where is the gift or blessing in this?
*What qualities will emerge in me as a result of this?
By asking empowering questions you change the way your mind operates. This might take practice, but the benefits will be endless. To unlock your superhero potential, you have to be focused on solutions instead of problems. Use the power of your mind to uncover the answers you need to fulfill your missions in life.
One of the superhero’s greatest qualities is the willingness to do what is necessary to achieve the desired positive goal. The superhero is willing to be the example, to fight for what they believe in, and to never give up.
The road is usually tough at first when you break out of the mold and start following your dreams, often times it can feel like an insurmountable uphill battle. Rest assured, if you stick to it, and you follow the steps provided here, you will reach the top and the road gets much easier from there.
Remember: the prize is not what you get, it’s who you become in the process.
So, whatever your unique mission is, be willing to say yes to it. “With great power comes great responsibility”, and the power within you is great enough to change the world.
